Equity by design starts in the brief.

Australian aged care is person-centred. The person sits at the centre, and the system assumes they choose for themselves, speak for themselves, and navigate it on their own behalf. That's a particular way of being old, presented as the general one.

Plenty of older Australians decide with family, speak through a daughter or an interpreter, or expect care to be offered rather than requested — and for them, the centre is a seat, not a say. Equity by design builds for that fuller picture from the start, and it points somewhere better: person-led care, where the person directs the care they receive.
